Which scooter would best suit my needs?

50cc   - The minimum age for a 50cc scooter is 16, and as they are restricted to 30 mph they are most suitable for inexperienced rider. They are also ideal for short journeys, commuting to work or just buzzing around town.

125cc  - These scooters can reach speeds of up to 65 mph, and are only available to riders over 17 years of age, and are more suitable for experienced riders wishing to take longer journeys on roads not restricted to 30 mph. 

What is the difference between 2 stroke and 4 stroke engines?

Four stroke engines use unleaded petrol, have better fuel economy and lower exhaust emission levels.

Two stroke engines require a fuel mix of petrol and oil, giving better performance. 

How economical are they to run?

Scooters typically use 55% - 80% less fuel than a car for the same journey distance. 

Typical cost of 10p per mile for a 125cc scooter.

Which payment methods are accepted?

We accept most major cards, debit cards, building society cheques and bank transfers. 

Do your prices include VAT?

Yes, all of our prices are inclusive of VAT 

Are there any delivery charges?

Delivery charges start at £120 for delivery to mainland England and Wales 

Will delivery take long?

Standard delivery is normally 3 working days from the date of cleared payment.

Saturday or next day delivery is also available. 

Will I be notified of delivery?

Yes, the delivery driver will contact you in advance to arrange a suitable day. 

Do I need to take a test to drive a scooter?

50cc    If you have a full licence obtained before 1stFebruary 2001 you do not need to take a test.

            Otherwise a CBT (Compulsory Basic Training) test is required

125cc  Yes, You must take a CBT test at the local CBT test centre. 

What is the CBT test?

The CBT is a full days training with an instructor to teach important safety theory and riding skills. It also involves on-site practice for bike manoeuvres, instruction on road craft, road conditions, and problems to be aware of.

Finally going out onto the highway with an instructor, coupled by radio link for advice.

  

What are the age and licence restrictions?

50cc  -  You must be at least 16 and hold a provision UK licence. Once you have completed your CBT you can ride a 50cc bike with ‘L’ plates. You cannot carry a passenger or drive on motorways until you have a full UK motorcycle licence. If you have a full UK driving licence obtained before 1stFebruary 2001, no further test is required, and you do not need to display ‘L’ plates.

125cc  - You must be at least 17 an hold a full UK driving licence and a CBT. You can then ride with ‘L’ plates until you obtain your full UK motorcycle licence. For more details, visit www.dvla.gov

Do I need to wear a helmet or protective clothing?

A helmet is compulsory and required by law. Protective clothing is recommended for your safety.

What does derestriction mean?

A 50cc bike is delivered from the factory restricted to 30 mph, but can be derestricted if you are over 17 or hold a full UK motorcycle licence/CBT test. Once the restrictions are removed, the bike is no longer classed as a moped, and its speed will be increased by 10-20 mph.

You must inform all relevant parties of any modifications made. 

Where can I obtain spare parts?

You can order parts by phone or on line. Parts are normally available within 3-5 days. 

Does my bike need servicing?

We recommend regular servicing at an approved service centre.

1stservice - 300km/3 months      2ndservice - 1000km/6 months     3rdservice – 3000km/12 months

Then every 3000km/6 months of ownership. 

What security is available to safeguard my bike?

To ensure the security of your bike, always lock it to an immovable object when not in use.

Consider security tagging your bike or fitting an alarm or immobiliser.

Disc locks are available which lock onto the brake disk, making it impossible to move the bike.

To avoid serious damage, remember to remove any disk lock before using your bike.

Chain locks are available to secure you bike to an immovable object when not in use. 

Are there any additional costs?

All bike and scooters that we sell will require to be registered with the DVLA (£55 fee) and taxed (£16 fee)

We arrange this for you, so that your bike is registered and taxed when you take delivery. 

What does the warranty cover

Kymco - 2 years covering mechanical failure of parts with a contribution of £25 an hour on labour costs..

Baotian - 1 years covering mechanical failure of parts with a contribition of £25 an hour on labour costs.

Zonties - 1 years covering mechanical failure of parts with a contribution of £25 an hour on labour costs.

Brookland will assist your local bike repairer with warranty claims if required.
